If you are moving long distance in California, depending on the size of your home packing and loading will vary and it may take up to three days to deliver your stuff. So, the time required to move your home depends greatly on the type of your move and the size of your home. There are some factors like the distance from your front door to the moving truck that can additionally increase the moving time for local moves.
On the day of the move you need to be present. There is paperwork to sign and you need to show the movers exactly what is being moved. After the movers have loaded the truck you will be ask to do a walk through. That is the time to point out anything that may have been missed.
At the unload they will place boxes in rooms based on the rooms written on the boxes. Furniture will be placed in the location you specify. It is helpful if you already have a basic idea where you want furniture placed. Truck(s) must be inspected at the conclusion of the move to ensure delivery of all your belongings.

The actual CPUC law is written as follows:
‘the time used shall be the total of loading, unloading and double the driving time from point of origin to point of destination.’ Unfortunately, ‘origin’ and ‘destination’ are interpreted differently by some moving companies. The generally accepted interpretation is the actual driving time between the customers origin location (the address you’re moving out of) to the destination location (the address you’re moving in to) is doubled and charged at the hourly mover rate.
As confusing as it may be, CPUC requires all moving companies use the double drive time law to protect consumers. Using double drive time provides visibility to the customer of the actual driving costs being paid and it compensates the moving company for their actual driving time, plus the time to return to the origin (where the job started).
Using the double drive time law, the customer is responsible for all drive time between the new and old house and the moving company is responsible for the driving time between their warehouse and the origin location.
